Frequently Asked Questions

Express Entry is Canada's primary federal immigration system for skilled workers. It manages applications for three economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class. Candidates are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and top-scoring candidates receive invitations to apply for permanent residency.

Processing times vary depending on the immigration program. Express Entry applications are currently processed in approximately 7 months. Non-Express Entry Provincial Nominee Programs take approximately 13 months. Spousal sponsorship takes 15 months (outside Quebec) or 21 months (inland). Parents and Grandparents sponsorship takes approximately 34 months. The Start-Up Visa program is currently paused with a 10+ year backlog. Timelines are estimates and subject to change. Current as of March 2026.
