Program Overview

Everything you need to know about Visitor Visa & Super Visa Canada

A Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), commonly known as a visitor visa, allows foreign nationals from visa-required countries to enter Canada for tourism, family visits, or business purposes. A standard visitor visa allows stays of up to 6 months.

The Super Visa is a multi-entry visa specifically designed for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents. It allows extended stays of up to 5 years at a time and is valid for up to 10 years, making it an excellent option while waiting for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP). The host in Canada must meet the minimum necessary income, based on the low income cut-off (LICO), for their family size: for example $30,526 CAD (1 person), $38,002 CAD (family of 2), $46,720 CAD (family of 3), or $56,724 CAD (family of 4) (IRCC table updated July 29, 2025).

Change effective March 31, 2026: the host can meet the minimum income in either of the 2 tax years before the application. If the host's income in the year before applying was at least 75% of the minimum, the visiting parent's or grandparent's own income can be added to make up the rest. Contact us to understand how these changes affect your Super Visa application.

Our team has extensive experience helping clients who have been previously refused, addressing the officer's concerns, and building a stronger application for resubmission. We help you demonstrate strong ties to your home country and genuine purpose of visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Visitor Visa & Super Visa Canada

A standard visitor visa typically allows stays of up to 6 months per entry. A Super Visa is specifically for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents and allows stays of up to 5 years at a time. The Super Visa requires medical insurance from a Canadian insurer or an eligible foreign insurer approved by Canada, and a written commitment of financial support from the inviting child or grandchild, who must meet the minimum income based on the low income cut-off (LICO), for example $38,002 CAD for a family of 2. Since March 31, 2026, the host can meet that amount in either of the 2 tax years before applying, and the visiting parent's or grandparent's income can be added if the host earned at least 75% of the minimum in the year before applying.

Yes. There is no limit to how many times you can reapply for a visitor visa. However, each new application should address the reasons for the previous refusal. We help you understand the refusal reasons through GCMS notes and build a stronger application for resubmission.

It depends on the country you apply from, and IRCC updates its figures weekly. In October 2026, most countries were under about 2 months, but some were much longer (Iran was 79 days). Our processing times page shows IRCC's current figures. We help you submit a complete application to avoid unnecessary delays.

Most citizens of visa-exempt countries need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), not a visitor visa, to fly to or through a Canadian airport (an eTA is not needed when arriving by land or sea). Citizens of visa-required countries generally need a visitor visa (TRV), although some can get an eTA instead when flying if they meet IRCC's conditions. US citizens need neither. Your nationality, and how you travel, determine which document you need.
