PGWP eligibility checker

Check your post-graduation work permit eligibility and estimated length from your program, school and language results.

Your details

Your school and program

Your study permit and the DLI list show the school’s name and type.

Does IRCC’s DLI list show your program as PGWP-eligible?

Search your school on the designated learning institutions list: it says whether its programs lead to a PGWP.

The normal length of the program, in months. In Quebec, 900 hours counts as 8 months.

months
How you studied
Were you a full-time student every semester?

Part-time in your final semester only is allowed. Authorized leave of up to 150 days may also be allowed.

Where did you take most of your courses?

At least half of the program must be in class in Canada. Online study from outside Canada is taken off the PGWP length.

An extension keeps the original date; a new study permit application (for example, to change schools) does not.

Language results

From an IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General, PTE Core, TEF Canada or TCF Canada result. Our language converter shows your level.

Your dates

What you can do

  • Search your school on IRCC’s DLI list and check the PGWP column for your program.
  • A second eligible program can be combined with this one if each is at least 8 months.
  • If you took authorized leave or your school had a strike, gather proof: those periods may not count against you.
  • Online courses taken outside Canada after August 31, 2024 never count toward the PGWP.
  • Book an approved test early: results must be less than 2 years old when you apply.
  • Mark the deadline and apply online before it. Don’t let your status expire while you wait for marks.
  • If your permit expires before your marks arrive, apply for a visitor record or plan to apply from outside Canada.
